melammu
   In the myths and lore associated with ancient Mesopotamian kingship, an aura or radiance surrounding the king's person. Sometimes translated as "awe-inspiring luminosity," melammu was an Akkadian word borrowed from the Sumerians. It is unknown where the concept came from, but it may have developed in the late fourth or early third millennia B.c.asa way of enhancing the image of kings by making them appear to be chosen or blessed by the gods. The Mesopotamian melammu was the partial basis for later artistic imagery of auras and halos surrounding the heads or bodies of Byzantine and christian angels and saints.
